Irreconcilable differences are a common reason for divorce, and while there might be jokes around squeezing the toothpaste tube from the top or the bottom, it is a fact that the smallest things become huge issues in an incompatible relationship. (I have to admit that my husband of 34 years and I solved this one by using different brands for many years. Recently, he bought my current brand! Fireworks ahead…).

The 2nd of March 2016 served as a momentous occasion as individuals arrived at The Da Vinci Institute in anticipation of the journey that lies ahead.

The Da Vinci Institute hosted the very first workshop of the BCom (Business Management) programme applied to Payroll employees. Together with Da Vinci associate Accsys, and the South African Payroll Association (SAPA), the design and development of the qualification serves to cultivate managerial leaders within the field of payroll management.

2016 Tax Year Filing Season

SARS has not officially published an opening date for the filing season (for our tax certificates for the tax year ending on 29th February 2016), which would traditionally have opened on the 1st April, 2016. The closing date has been announced as the end of May, 2016.

The 2016-2017 South African Budget Speech was presented by the Minister of Finance, Pravin Gordhan on Wednesday, 24 February 2016.

The link to the Treasury Press Release is below. It appears that the annuitisation is delayed, however the document released is a proposal and the final information will be covered in the budget speech on the 24th February, 2016 by Pravin Gordhan, current Minister of Finance.

Much time and expense has been incurred by many companies to ensure compliance with the new act.

It appears that both Nedlac and Cosatu are objecting to a lack of consultation, with two major issues on the table:

Retirement Fund Reform

This has been a week of uncertainty with regards the Retirement Reform, which are due to change (amongst other things) the way payrolls process retirement contributions.

The Ministry of Finance released a media statement yesterday, 18th February 2016, clarifying the situation (see the official notice here).

We are holding our breaths at the moment, and anxiously speculating on what the Annual Budget speech will bring us this year.

Finance Minister Pravin Gordhan, who was reappointed at the end of last year, will be presenting the budget speech to Parliament on the 24th February 2016, at 2pm.

Rumours of leaked information, predictions and statistics are steadily making the rounds.
