Job security, relations and remuneration top employee priorities

A recent survey conducted by Accsys, a people management specialist and national supplier of payroll, HR, Time & Attendance and Access Control solutions, showed that job satisfaction, security and improved interaction with people are chief concerns.
The survey was organised to gain insight into the mindset of workers within the modern workplace environment and ascertain priorities.
The company, recognised by industry for its contribution to effective people management in business, engaged a number of employees across various backgrounds, age-groups and positions in the survey.
Participants were asked about their personal ambitions when they were young, what they liked and disliked about their current positions/ jobs and what drives them as individuals within the current economic environment.
“From the answers provided, most participants were pursuing vastly different vocations/ careers to what they initially had in mind. We were also interested to see that most respondents felt that financial security and opportunities for promotion are priorities. The opportunity for individual growth and improved relations with colleagues was also highlighted,” said Teryl Schroenn, CEO, Accsys.
Although job security and a clearly defined earning strategy were mentioned by most people, irrespective of age bracket, there was a slight difference in terms of general goals.
“People within the twenty-to-thirty age group tend to focus on their individual growth and finding direction within a company, establishing themselves within their job. Respondents within the thirty-to-forty age category emphasised promotion, opportunity and security as main goals. It was interesting to note that harmonious work environment and effective people management skills were listed as important considerations amongst those people within the forty-to-sixty age group,” Schroenn added.
HR experts at Accsys agreed that whilst there were a few noticeable differences between the age groups with respect to answers to questions, job related stress and administration were commonly identified as frustrations. At the same time the ability to impact the lives of people, acknowledgement and recognition were listed as motivators.
“This survey offers up some very interesting information about what people regard as important in the workplace and the extent to which current circumstances are affecting people’s drive and motivation,” Schroenn says.
Management at Accsys is planning to conduct additional surveys in the future and will use the information gained to bolster its service and assistance to the broader market.
