My employer won’t pay for the course

This is more the exception than the rule. However please approach your employer to establish company policy with regards to upskilling with a qualification that is related to your job function. They may say that if you ‘pass’ the qualification they will reimburse you in full/50%/25% etc. etc. Other employers take the view that they will pay and if you don’t succeed then you will have to reimburse them. Often there will be a clause that it requires you to remain in your position for the duration of the course only, or for an additional year etc. Etc. This is something to be negotiated.
